Exercise and weight gain

Recommended Posts

The first 6 months I raised my endurance level by walking. I decided to step it up a notch and I've been spinning 4 times this past week and I just noticed I've gained 4lbs. Please tell me it is temporary!

It's temporary. It's your body reacting to the change in your fitness routine.

So now it's been 2 weeks of increased exercise. Spinning 5 times a week for 30 or 45 minutes and free weights. I'm still ip 4lbs. Has anyone experienced this? Also I'm hydrating well, eating 70-100 grams of Protein and carbs under 40 per day calories around 1000 and I am 42. This sucks. How long until I see results.

More doesn't necessarily equal better. It may benefit you to tweak your program, for instance spinning 2 times a week and then something less intense and restorative, like walking, or yoga two days a week.

There is a weight loss guru named Dr. Ray Hanish who is really up on the science and physiology of exercise. His podcast [url="http://cutthefatpodcast.com/ is available for free on iTunes.

I think it surprised me to hear that overtraining can put the body into stress and just completely shut down fat burning mechanisms. I hope this helps!

You might want to increase those carbs. Your body may be holding onto those pounds as a reaction to the workout. Carbs re not evil. Processed carbs are. Good carbs come from Beans, dark green veg, rolled oats, yogurts, quinoa, sweet potatoes and nuts to name just a few. Are you fueling your workouts? A Protein Shake before and an ounce of nuts after might provide the Protein and healthy carbs your body needs.

Good for you! If you love spinning and your body is feeling good because you're going 5 times a week, who cares about 4 measly little pounds? I can gain and lose that from the first to last day of my period!!! :)

You're eating healthy, you're super active, and you're drinking lots of water... That 4 pounds won't hang on forever and even if it does, your body will start to change! A previous poster said that your body is reacting to a change in routine and that's probably exactly right. And changes can have an effect for up to 6 weeks!! Just keep doing what makes you feel good and the positive difference will come!

I started orange theory last month and FREAKED out because I gained. I did a TON of research to talk myself down from the ceiling and found out that once you start a new, intensive work out, your muscles hold onto Water as they repair themselves. I forgot exactly what it is called but it is common. I know its hard but give it time, you body will flush all the Water weight out and you will see results after a few weeks. I did (down 5 pounds this week alone).

Alos, I have had to change my mindset away from the scale and look to inches lost. Since I'm close to goal, I really need to look at how tone I am becoming. The scale will trip you out when you start and intense workout routine.

Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
