Revision to RNY - Best decision

Recommended Posts

I just want to say that I'm so thrilled with my decision to go with a revision and I wonder why I even bothered with the lap band in the first place.. Because I didn't want to be internally altered... Like many of you, I suffered more from the band (and what it was doing to me - cutting into my liver) then from the alterations that have been made to my body by switching to bypass. I can now actually eat good foods - salad and Protein - and not throw up or be in pain. Surgery on 10/5/15 and 3 months later down 46 pounds. Awesome!

Congratulations

I agree 100% with you. I was banded for 6 years and almost 2 months before my revision on 12/31/2015. I feel so much better in just a week. And that's through the pain of healing.

Ditto. Banded nearly 11 years. I enjoy eating now more than maybe even before the band. I am satisfied, full and can eat anything.

So glad to hear this.... I hope in few months I will be able to feel the same when I get this band out and have my revision....

Few years ago my husband kept telling me that I need to get this band out, but I thought I can make it work.... He was right, I should have started going revision route a long time ago.

Isn't that the truth?!

One thing I realize tho is that I can eat more then a person who hasn't had a previous surgery.

I have banding from 22 years ago and been struggling with it, and constant weight gain and loss from just after 3 years after getting it.

Until the end of last year I was told I had to put up with this, or only have band removed, but learned I can have revision to bypass and in process of having it done now.

A new spring of hope has arrived, and thanks to all hear for your input.

RJ - wow 22 year? Didn't know they were doing those surgeries so long ago! Look into all options out there if your insurance company won't pay. Even Mexico or other overseas destinations. It's so expensive to self pay here. There is hope and it's good to see that you are feeling it!!!????????????????????

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
