port

Recommended Posts

I was wondering about how the port feels under your skin. I'm concerned that it will drive me nuts. Little things like that tend to get under my skin so to speak.

Ha! Ha! But really, how does it feel? I really need to know what I'm in for.

Sincerely , Starrla

Mine was uncomfortable for a month after surgery, but I don't even notice it now. Some people seem to have a bit of trouble with it, but I rarely even think about it.

Mine was sore for a while (a few weeks) after surgery. There was a kind of a tender area above my navel, but you cant see it. It is far enough under my skin that I cant feel it unless I press deeply into my skin, then it only feels like a hardened area. It is not protruding, and now 7 weeks out, it really isn't sore anymore.

I felt mine and it sometimes became sore during the first year. More recently, I am not aware of it. It has now moved somewhere away from where my jeans waistband fits THANK GOODNESS!! Mine has gotten much more comfortable and less noticeable to me as time goes on.

This was one thing that I was bothered by as well (pre-surgery). My answer is generally the same as everyone else... a little tenderness the first week or two.

And now, 4 months later, I very seldom think about it or notice it there.

Another thing that I was concerned about was it causing uncomfortableness during sex. That wasnt a problem either!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
