My best friend always tells me "do what is best for you". It is a hard decision to try and work out a relationship or leave it. I hope you can find support and kindness here that can sustain you when it is lacking elsewhere. Just remember that there is a lot of work to be done besides surgery. This is something you are capable of getting through with or without him! You are alot stronger than you realize! You can do this! You are worthy of your dreams! You are already beautiful! You don't really need a man to be an amazing woman. Now is a good time to set priorities and clear out clutter. He can get on board or get out! Either way....you got this! We are all in it together! Are you on Facebook?

Thanks for replying. I'm still feeling quite nauseated today, even tho the horrible FULL, bloated feeling from the Cream of Wheat is gone. I'm sticking to chicken and/or beef broth and runny yogurt today, along with part of a protein-fortified Slim Fast, but still the nausea! I'm sipping Crystal Light all day to keep from becoming dehydrated. Is nausea "normal" the first week after surgery? Also a bit of, er, diarrhea.......sorry.............Is this all just my body making adjustments? Nothing was removed....just rearranged...

so I didn't think it would need such adjustments. Must be a wrong assumption!! Let me know what you (or anyone else) thinks!

wow... I really rambled.....lol!

I'm scheduled to have my surgery on January 13th....I know I'm not gonna be able to eat anything for 2 weeks because of my pre- op diet but the guy that I'm with is having me cook Breakfast, lunch, and dinner for him nd dinner for our daughter as well....then he tells me if I can't handle that then I should leave nd go to my family house until I have my surgery...so right now I'm not sure what I should do any suggestions

So, if you leave then who is going to cook his Breakfast, lunch, and dinner?

What a jerk.

There is a reason I'm single...

Ultimatums can be a two way street. If this is his, communicate yours. If he's not willing to bend, or listen to reason, break it off with him, as he's not worthy of your love.

Don't short change your life and health trying to fulfill his narcissistic demands.

My honest advice.......do whatever you have to do to get your surgery.......get healed up.....get active walking..........then walk far away from that dude.

Leave him in your wake and focus on yourself and your daughter.

Involve the police as needed and set your course for a better situation.

What a prick !

@@Mrs.A.Train, some of the people who've replied think he's not supportive, others think he isn't a friend and still others think he's utterly self-absorbed and has no regard for you and what is in your best interests. I agree. More to the point, he's a freakin' ass'hole. If he wants to be catered to, let him go back to his mother. There are men in the world. He isn't one of them.

This isn't about serving him. It's about the way you think of yourself and what you deserve from a relationship. Would you really cancel surgery to be the creep's maidservant? You have health problems. I'd think you'd want to work on them so that you can live for yourself and to be there to love and care for your child. The younger child, that is.

He's a freakin' ass'hole. Puke. Crap. On him, that is.

I"m so angry that I keep coming back in to type more. Mrs. A. Train (are you in my town?), you're bringing up a major issue not only about losing weight, but about your entire life and your value in the world. If you would really consider risking your well-being, maybe you should consider seeing a therapist. It hurts to see you thinking the way that you are thinking. You deserve so much better from a man and from yourself.

It's hard when dealing with unsupportive people. Hopefully he comes to realize his actions are more harmful than helpful and will make a change for the better.

I agree with the other comments. You have to focus on you and your needs. The haters will hate and still say they love you. It's times like these you see who's really in your corner. I had a similar experience because I was with a person who felt like he had the upper hand by making me feel insecure. I am glad to say I am free from that "situation" and I am loving me and life.

Hopefully you will have a better outcome, but if he or anyone else can't love you right and support your ability to be better and do better don't be afraid to tell them DUECES! ✌????️

Thank u all for ur advice I just don't no which way to turn bcuz I haven't talked to my family about me having surgery at all it was brought up but I didn't tell them except my cousin that I was having surgery on January 13, nd she's trying to talk me out of it saying its to soon but I was ready....I let my daughter no what's going on she's 10 yrs old nd she understands that I need to get healthy bcuz I have so many health problems going on with myself so she says if its gonna keep me here longer with her go for it so I went for it

Darling Mrs. A. Train, your daughter is a shining light. She's the wise one in all of this. I would love to hug both of you.

As far as support, the others have already said that you'll find plenty of it here. You can also get a lot by attending the support groups that your surgery practice offers. If it doesn't have groups, check with other hospitals in your area. They usually welcome patients to their support groups. The groups generally discuss everything from what to eat to the emotional issues. Sitting down with a group is a wonderful opportunity to share ideas and experiences.

Mrs A Train,

This sounds like it’s not so much second thoughts about surgery, but rather second thoughts about whom you’re choosing to spend your time with! It would be one thing if this were it – if you only had to get through these two weeks (at your family’s house or with him), but this isn’t it.

What happens after surgery? Will he suddenly change and stop having you cook unhealthy dinners for him and your daughter? I sure hope so, but I doubt it.

On the other hand, I realize how hard it is to just leave, especially when you need to consider your daughter’s well-being. What does he say about the post-op situation? Will he be supportive? Does he want you to get healthy?

No matter what, your health needs to come first. It needs to come even before your daughter, because she needs you.

If you’re afraid to tell your family, you really need some support from somewhere so you can have a safe place to be and positive people to help you out. Good luck finding it!

Good luck with your decision.

Don't let anything or anyone stop you from having the surgery!

It gives you a wonderful future, I wish I could have had it when I was younger. I look better (clothed) anyway. I go up and down stairs so much easier. Find a good second hand store! I have bought only about 4 items new they were size 12 jeans, 10 jeans which I returned for 8s and they are now to big and a Christmas sweater which is to big but will try to take it in.

It doesn't make your life perfect with out your normal issues so don't expect it to.

Get your mind behind the liquid phase, after day 2 it won't be bad as your body has adjusted. Just remember we ALL did the liquid phase. You will be able to cook for your family because you will have to afterwards, is it always easy no but eating huge amounts had it bad moments too.

Get a friend from this group or from your surgeons support group. Having someone that had the surgery on or near your surgery date to rely, complain, or encourage you helps so much.

Also if possible find a md that specializes in patients that just had gastric surgery. Our surgeon had a dr stop in before we were released. I really didn't think I needed him, but they know every issue you have or will have. They have ways to help you so much. I would suggest anyone that has gained back any weight find one. He has told me they have all kinds of ways to stop it before it gets out of hand, and I BELIEVE him.

Don't give up go forward and message me if you need someone!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
