Op date19/2/2015 for gastric bypass

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm 56 years old and I have about 35 kg to 40kg to loose well I would hope that I can. I'm new to this forum, I have been told my surgery date will be on the 19/2/2016 I am excited but also scared of post op complications. I do think about how much my health issues will improve. But I'm still a little concerned. I have been reading that the people who are doing the RNY are younger than me so I would like to hear from some people around my age who have done this procedure and are post op.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Welcome! I had gastric bypass on October 26 so I haven't had very much experience yet but I am 63 years old so thought I would respond. My high weight was 278 and current weight is 226. I have arthritis so chronic pain is a big problem for me. Over the past year, my blood pressure was creeping up and up. But in August, I started having horrible pain in my knees so I went to the pain management specialist I've seen for the past 12 years. He told me that if I didn't have weight loss surgery right away, I would be in a wheelchair on a morphine pump within a year or so. I was stunned, but that was the reality of my joints crumbling under that much weight. I saw my surgeon the following week and started my pre surgery diet. There were a few hoops to jump through for insurance purposes and I was scheduled for surgery. So far, my blood pressure has dropped to normal and my pain level is lessening. I still have a ways to go, but I feel better about myself than I have in decades. Good luck on your journey!

Hi nice to hear from you, thanks for filling me in.

I am still nervous but I'm dreaming about the progress.

Is it true you stop craving sweets and fatty foods I'm a little scepticle, but I sure hope its true as I love my sweets. Would love to hear from you about the appetite situation and I wish you a happy new year and hope you will recover from all your medical conditions..

I am 61 and had RNY on December 1. Started at 302 and now I'm at 268. Everything went fine! Everyone is fearful about complications, but rest in the fact that most do not have any. I also am s sugar junkie, or WAS. I have no cravings now for it or anything else. I'm just not hungry--almost have to force myself to eat. Good luck!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
