Hi there. I am 5 days post op gastric bypass . I have had a few issues and just got out of the hospital yesterday. Apparently the blood thinner they gave me in surgery caused a reaction within my body causing me to actually bleed. So now all that old blood is coming out of me via bloody bowel movements. It has been super scary . I have done a lot of praying but my surgeon assures me everything is ok. The bleeding had slowed down a lot now and that is great. Hopefully it is done soon! While in the hospital I had to have 6 bags of blood transfusions to keep my levels up. Once they stayed up I was able to go home.. On Christmas Day! I go back on Monday to have blood work done and have my levels checked so I hope it remains up or I may have to have another transfusion. I am reading everything given to me by the surgeon and hospital and trying to get my fluids in as best as I can but I still sort of feel hungry even though I know I shouldn't . I also have lots of gas pains still and hoping to get rid of it. How long until the gas pain goes away and you feel full after just a few sips of Protein drink or a couple tbsp of pudding? I have read some people say they can hardly finish the couple tbsp . Also looking for any mentors out there who want a buddy?

Thanks!

Your gas pains should be going away soon since you are 5 days post-op. Walking will make gas pains go away quickly. You may still experience hunger while you are in the liquid stage but for many this hunger seems to go away when you reach the solid stage. Many people simple miss chewing.

At this point the nerves in your stomach have not yet healed, so you're just not feeling as full as you are. I had a similar issue in the beginning. By 3-4 weeks, that had changed a lot and I could actually tell when I was full. You should be fine if you stick to your plan and listen to your body. As far as the gas pain, walking is definitely the best way to reduce that. Glad you're okay and home from a scary situation! Feel free to friend me. :)

Thank you so much! I have been walking every chance I get . Even at home, my two year old walks with me hand in hand as we walk through the house lol

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
