I hate my band...

I was banded 4 years ago. I lost a bit of weight (far from what I needed to) about 55 lbs but it took me forever (2 years) and lots of hard work. I have now allowed my weight to creep back up and I'm close to where I started again.

I hate the unpredictability of my band and the feel of the port in my gut. I'm thinking about the sleeve or the bypass.

I'm of course so embarrassed to call my hospital program again. I haven't been going. My gp Doctor suggested I convert to the bypass and I started bawling in her office. It's embarrassing to fail at weight loss after surgery.

Has anyone here converted? Thought about it?

  • Why not go back to the surgeon and get a fill? Every surgery will be hard work. If after rebooting you aren't doing well, then consider a revision. Don't be embarrassed. They have seen it all

New new me, I couldn't agree more. My surgeon said all bands, literally all of them will need to be removed eventually. They have a life expectancy of 8-10 years, no matter if you are compliant or not. My band adhered to my liver and that had nothing to do with anything I did. My band was also unfilled for the last 2 years that I had it due to severe reflux as well. I truly regret the band now. A few years ago, I was still in love with it. It worked, until it didn't.

I am glad I had issues with it before it got worse.

I had a VSG with zero problems, seriously I was expecting some, but have none.

That said, even a sloppy band will do more for you than Jenny Craig, WW, or the new pills (tried em all).

No matter what we try, we will still have to change our lifestyle and even if the band isn't as strong a tool as VSG, Gastric Bypass, or DS, it's still a real tool that can help.

Embrace it for all its worth!

Unfortunately no wls will work if you can't stick to a consistent eating plan. There is no magic surgery. Before putting your body through major surgery again really evaluate yourself. Have you followed your band rules? Have you visited your doc and discussed your diet, fill level etc? Wishing you the best on whatever journey you decide!
