Banded 3 months ago and not loosing weight very quick...

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I am new here and happy to find such a great site for information. I had the lap band done in May this year. I have had two fills and I am loosing weight very slowly. I have lost about 17 pounds, which is fine I don't mind doing it slowly, but I am just concerned because I am able to eat basically anything still and at large quantities if I wish. I think the weight I have lost is more because I am more concious of what I am eating and basically dieting than the band doing its job.

I have had two fills so far and bought my next appointment forward 2 weeks. The reason I am concerned is my sister had the same operation in February and lost her weight very rapidly and is close to her goal weight already.

Does it just get tighter or tighter or would you worry that it isn't working properly?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

How full is your band ?

My doc put 4.8 in the first go & I have great restriction.

My next fill is scheduled for the 14th Aug.... he says that it will ease off my then. Good luck with it all.

Cheers

Don't worry too much or too soon. Your band is still quite recent and you have a long journey ahead. Remember that the band is there to help you out, it's a 50/50 job for the rest of your life and you have to put in your share of effort and work so that it works well and smoothly. No use comparing your loss to your sister's or to someone else - trust me, I know how frustrating that can be because we end up thinking that everybody else is loosing at a faster pace and so much more than we are and then we start wondering there's something wrong with the band... Remember that each person reacts differently to the band and there's nothing wrong with that. It's just annoying if we loose slowly (which is my case) but at the same time that will allow time for your body to adjust to its new reality. Do lots of reading and research here at LBT and you'll find many useful «tricks» that will help you out with your band. Watch out for the correct food choices and try to exercise more. Also, people with lower BMI tend to loose more slowly.

All the best,

niki

Thanks guys, I don't know how much I have had it filled, the doctor has never told me, but both times he filled the syringe right up, it looked like a 4 or 5ml syringe, but then I don't know if all went in if you know what I mean.

I have no problem loosing slower if that is how it has to be, I just worry that it isn't working properly because I am able to eat a lot still. I thought by now it would be that I could only eat small amounts at a time.

Because you can still eat a lot it sounds to me that you need more fill. You haven't hit your sweet spot yet.

Hey Scarlet121! I to am having the same problem sort of. I had my surgery in may this year and ive had 3 fills already up to 1.8 cc in my band. I still am able to eat everything, bread Pasta rice dont make me sick like they say! There were complications with my docotor leaving to another company so i have to wait for my 4th fill, and im going to ask for a whole cc or somthing more. But i have lost already 33 pounds! Yea me! i wish it was more qucikly but i think im on a good track! I still get the sweet cravings but not like before i still eat a burger from micky d's with no problem. But i do feel the pain when i eat too quickly, so i know the band it there. haha.. Well Good Luck with it.. I just want to be a size 12 already! HAHAH...

Thanks everyone, well I went today and in a month I still lost 2 pounds, he asked what I was still able to eat and I said basically everything, and he was proud that I had lost weight, he said most put on (scary LOL) so he put in 1cc today and said he doesn't think I will have anymore problems eating too much. Now I am even scared to try it!

I had my surgery May 23rd and have had two fills. I have some restriction but not enough. I have not lost much weight at all since immediately following surgery.

I go in for my 3rd fill next week and think it is going to make a huge difference. Just because you can eat all you want or whatever you want doesnt mean you have to. I struggle with this myself. Work out, it will make you want to eat better so youre not wasting time by being at the gym just to eat a Sundae!

I think this is part of the learning curve and bandster hell while we wait to get good restriction. Hang in there!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
