When I first had the band last summer . I told everyone who asks , if a person is not ready to give up eating 4 pieces of chicken they are NOT ready to get a band.

I hope that it a clear meaning to us overeaters.

When i first started to consider getting the band i first thought i don' t want to live the rest of my life with that thing in me. (I'm 34) I knew i could do the work and get the weight off if i tried hard but keeping it off was the bigger problem. so that's were i decided i needed the help. I didn't want to spend the rest of my life losing and then gaining it all back plus some and feeling like a failure. So i decided to go for it. I was willing to give up being able to eat whatever i wanted and how much i wanted to live a healthier life.

I can tell you that for me IT WAS A LIFE SAVER , do all the research you can, talk to other people that have had the lap band surgery done and you will see for your self that it is the best tool to lose weight, for people like me at least that have tried every diet that any one recommended to me or the newest diet pill that I could get, until finally I accepted that I needed that extra little help from the Lap band and for me I can tell you, the lapband worked. I'll be happy to help you out on any doubts you might have I went trough this couple of years ago and I know I made the best choice.

I would do it again. I am almost 4 mos post op and i have lost 43 lbs. I still eat pretty much what i want. I do try to make healthier meal choices but if i want a cookie for dessert or a snack i will allow myself to have one. Notice i said one and not 5 (that would have been the old me) And i don't do it regularly. i'm sure my weight loss would be faster if i cut out all the carbs but i don't want to feel like i'm on a "diet" because we all know diets don't really work long term. I do try to work out at least 3x a week for at least 1 hour.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
