Hello everyone,

I am having trouble getting my profile started, however I would like to share my journey so far. My name is Jessica and I am 21 years old and live in Florida♡ Dr. Ramirez is my surgeon and I will be having my surgery on December 14th and I am getting very nervous. Tomorrow I start my 2 week liquid diet with one meal a day. What is surgery like? What can I expect? I am looking for friends who have had the Gastric Sleeve surgery that I can talk to during my journey.

Thank You!

Ok, my journey quickly. I was terrified of surgery, had my sleeve done 8/3/15. I have lost 55lbs including preop. I contemplated surgery for 3 years. I just made up my mind it had to be done, just like my gallbladder had to come out 10 years ago. I was hungry from day 2, but the great thing is the sleeve stops you from overeating, love it. I was a big overeater, could lose the weight, but never kept it off, like so many of us. I can tolerate almost anything and could from day 2 also. I stay away from Pasta, rice and bread, and I considered myself a bread addict more then anything before. I have never vomited, occasional nausea. The pain was very tolerable, only took pain medicine one time after a 2 day hospital stay and that was really for a headache. Any other questions please feel free to ask, you can send me a message, good luck, you'll be fine.

Welcome and congratulations on taking such a big, scary step towards getting healthier.

I was sleeved April 20 of this year and couldn't be happier with my recovery and results so far. This was my first surgery ever myself so I understand your fear.

For me the absolute worst part of the process was where you are right now -- in that uncertain place where you are taking a step into the unknown on faith. The absolute best part was the surgery itself because you aren't even aware that anything happened until you wake up in recovery. I woke up coughing and trying to catch my breath, but that was really the worst of my results. I was a little sore, had some gas pain in my shoulder, and was really cold in the hospital. A heating pad and walking helped with both the cold and the gas pain.

You can do it!

Hi. I had sleeve surgery in August 2014. I lost 130 lbs including pre-op. I am having RYGB surgery on Dec. 8th. I start my liquid diet tomorrow. I am a little freaked out by this surgery. I don't know what to expect post-op. Any suggestions?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
