I could have left the next day but stayed an additional night cuz we had a five hour drive home. I think an extra night might be good for you to rest and heal more.

Txbariatricguy, who is your doc? I have had a great experience too.

My surgeon requires 2 nights. She might have met me go after one, but I live four hours away, so she kept me both required nights, because if there were a complication, she preferred me there!

I stayed 2 nights. I had quite a bit of pain and wanted the extra day of IV pain killers. Was more than ready to go home after the 2 nights though.

I have a two night stay. Surgery is Tuesday morning and I'll be discharged Thursday. I'm okay with that because I live alone and don't have family close by. The hospital has wifi so I'll just bring my ipad and headphones and hang out in my comfy pants watching Netflix until they set me free :)

When is your surgery? & I am sorry that no one is close to help you :( but live up the 24/7 service lol

My surgery is next Tuesday! I do have my parents and siblings about 45 minutes away so they'll be over on the weekend to help me out if I need it but they can't just pop over whenever. I'm sure everything will be just fine though, it seems like a lot of people are recovering quickly!

My clinic says it'll be two nights - maybe as little as one. Insurance letter said they approved one night only.

What happens if I NEED to stay more than one?

The hospital will contact your insurance company with the information necessary to get approval for the second night. I would not worry.

Why don't you just Call your surgeons office and ask? They are the only ones that can answer your question. No one else's experience has anything to do with your surgeons or your insurance's protocols.

The same thing happened to me! My insurance approved one night but since I lived five hours away I decided to stay another night. I have not heard from insurance but feel they will pay. I hope I am right :)

Good luck to you.

I was in for one night and released the next day around 5:30 PM. Houston rush hour traffic is horrendous and it took us almost two hours to get home even though it is a 30 min. drive. I was glad to have a pillow in the car to hold up against my stomach for going over bumps and potholes.

I had RNY but I was scheduled for just an overnight stay, but I didn't handle anesthesia well and I didn't wake up all the way for the first day and my lungs were suppressed by the IV pain meds so I needed full oxygen support. The second day they tried to give me oral pain meds to transition off the IV meds but I violently threw it all up each time so they put me back on the IV which brought on massive oxygen drops til I told them I didn't want pain meds anymore. I could tolerate my pain on my own enough and I wanted to be able to breathe without oxygen problems and I knew it was the med causing my problem because it happened to be too when I had kidney stones years ago. To make a longer story shorter, I went in on Monday and stayed til Wednesday. It was really hard for me because I wanted to get back to my baby (he's 17 month now) and my other 6 kiddos, but sometimes the best thing for your kids is to stay at the hospital where you are safe.

My surgeon gave me the option of staying a second night. I was feeling pretty good so I went home the 2nd day, only 1 night.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
