My preop diet was great, I lost 16lbs. We had to do it for 1 week, 3 Protein shakes a day and 1 meal, Protein and veggies. I did my meal at dinner time. We could also have clear fluids, anytime, clear Soup, popsicles, Jello, tea Decaf, diet juices like cranberry, no sugar, no calories, chrystal light. Then 2 days before surgery we had to do all Clear liquids only. Mostly so we could shrink the liver to make the surgery safer. There must be a reason why they do not require you to do this, but the sooner you give up the sugar and carbs the better. No rice, Pasta and bread for 6 months to 1 year following surgery, no soda ever, and no liquor for 1 year. Good luck. I am not recommending you do the above just giving you an example of what I did.

Your insurance doesn't determine your preop diet, your surgeon does. Some surgeons don't require one, based on their experience and your starting weight.

Not something to worry about!

I'm not really sure what i should do now. My insurance doesn't require a pre op diet. What do i do now?

Great. Then all you need to do is follow your surgeon's requirements.

I also dont know what to do in regards for my pcp records. I see a endocrinologist every 3-6 months and she usually takes care of everything i need. And i was seeing my obgyn last year since i was pregnant. Should i just give them my 12 months records from them?

Sign a release of records and give contact info for any MD's you have seen in the past year;. They'll ask for what they need.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
