Hello has anyone else experienced sharp stabbing pains on left had side since surgery. I'm 10 days out of surgery and have continue to have sharp stabbing pains, I'm still on strong pain killers. I feel everything else my Fluid diet and scars are doing really well apart from this pain which is debilitating, unless I'm laying flat on my back any movement is killing me. I'm not lazy I've been getting up and doing stuff I even went back to the hospital to have a scan to see if all ok, surely this instead just bruising? Never heard of anyone else suffering this way any advice or guidance great fully received.

Ps. I constantly have to walk round with a fist like hand pressed in just under my breast to support the pain.

Thank you in advance

Tracy X

I had massive muscle cramping in my abs from day 2 and beyond. Unfortunately, could be nerve damage from incisions or instruments. It is a rare complication that is hard to avoid by practice alone. It took months for the cramps to go away and I still get minor ones sometimes. They were debilitating and laying down was the only position I could manage when they arose. Not much you can do than take NSAIDs, stay hydrated with electrolytes (Pedialyte worked well), and strengthen the area when you are finally able to. Ask your doctor about possible nerve damage. If it feels muscular, a steroidal shot may help.

I would call my surgeon just to make sure that what you're experiencing is a normal part of the healing process and not indicative of some other problem.

I had something similar but in my right side. Every time I breathed in I felt the sharp stabbing pain and my ribs were tender to the touch. I called my surgeon after dealing with this for 5 days and the had a stat CT scan done. Mind you i just hit a month post op today. They wanted to rule out a pulmonary embolism. Thank god I had negative results and no PE was found. They think I over exerted myself and strained something. This was all on monday, it's Sunday now and I can say it's the first day where the pain is completely gone and I can breathe with no discomfort. Maybe it's possible you have done the same?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
