I read that if you're hydrated enough before eating, you won't miss it while you eat... I can easily NOT DRINK & eat... so that won't be hard for me once I'm banded....

I'm not banded, yet...7/25 is my big day. I know it's hard to not drink while eating, but it is one of the banding rules you must follow to be successful. If you eat during your meals, you will (1) rush the food through your pouch, causing you to want to eat more--overconsumption, (2) risk vomiting, leading to possible slippage, and (3) you may end up stretching your pouch.

Just please work to get this rule under your belt. Hope this helps!

Yep! I follow the rule!! If I get desperate, I'll have just enough of a sip to moisten my mouth...probably no more than a tablespoon...and I'll only do that once or twice during a meal. Most times I just don't even have a drink on the table so that I"m not tempted. I do admit, that it's the hardest part about being banded, but not impossible.

Hi Kimmom,

I don't think the band will be effective if you drink while eating. It liquifies the food and it goes throughthe band too fast, so you eat more.

You can drink and Water load in between meals and you will stay hydrated. If you chew your food well, I don't think you would need to drink.

I am not banded yet, but on my pre op diet right now, so I do not know the exact way it will feel but I have done my reading about it, so that is what i understand.

Take care

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
