I feel like I need to burp, before, after, during a meal?

Recommended Posts

How do i burp, i feel like i need to as stated, cant do it, Been banded for a month + now, it bugs me, how do you burp?:whoo:

Sometimes your stoma acts as a one way valve so if you swallow air it won't come back up. The real trick is to learn not to swallow air.

It gets better with time, you have a lot of new sensations and feelings that you will be experiencing. You'll learn to burp when the air is in your pouch vs. your stomach. It just takes time.

I burp constantly, especially after I drink Water. After every sip of water, I burp. Someone that has been banded for years told me that's a sign of good restriction. It's kind of annoying but I am used to it now. I am not sure if I am swallowing air every time I take a drink or eat. If I feel like I need to burp and I don't, I give myself a little pat right between my breasts and I burp.

I have been banded for 6 days and have the same problem....someone told me it is because I am drinking too fast....for you it may be either eating or drinking I am only on liquids right now....I did notice that when I slow down it is better.

I burp constantly too. I don't feel like I'm restricted enough yet, so not sure about that theory.. but I burp after every drink of anything.. and within 20 minutes of eating, I'm burping quite a bit. My family's getting use to it, I don't hold back.. I just let them rip! I don't think about it anymore really, and I'll be in public and let out a huge burp and then it hits me.. hehe.

I cannot burp, or should I say belch like before being banded. I am 6 months out tomorrow. I do, however, have dozens of tiny tiny burps a day, often during eating. It's like the food is shifting in the band, and at times it aids in food passing thru. My dr says this is air getting trapped below. A curiosity, to be sure, but common place now. But definately no more big burps!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
