BC/BS new changes!

Recommended Posts

BC/BS of Tennessee changed policy 2 weeks ago. The 6 month supervised diet is now really 7 months. The time from the very first weigh in to the last must be 180 days, so this is technically 6 months and 2 weeks. I completed my 6th visit yesterday and submitted to surgeon and was advised of the changes. This practice is top notch and on top of things! They had no warning from BC/BS of the new requirements. The clinic coordinator stated that she has 7 denials on her desk, but lucky for me I can attend one more visit with my PCP. Others not so lucky!! If I had to start this whole waiting game over, I would be devastated!

Just more proof of big business, and insurance companies, taking over the practice of medicine and the physician's ability to provide care to patients as they need it...not as dictated to by insurance companies. Evn them calling all in health care "providers," not nurses, physicians, etc...is to minimize the true role clinicians play. Sad, annoying times.

That's odd. I have BCBS AL and knew about the "7 month" requirement all the way back in March when I started. It is still a 6 month supervised diet, it's just 7 visits. March to September is only 6 months but I had 7 visits.

Wow, that's crappy -- but remember, the terms also depend on state rules, etc. So, this may not affect folks in other states.

It's sad BC/BS anywhere is going that way. Blue Shield of CA just dropped the 6 month requirement and a bunch of others in June.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
