sleeve success after revision from band with Gerd

Recommended Posts

Anyone with GERD related to slipped band have success with a new sleeve. My local bariatric doctor is adament on the sleeve as my bmi is low because i still have band. We all know what will hapen once band is removed without additional surgery.

I scheduled for the sleeve in Mexico and am thrilled

I am losing slowly, but losing. I lost slowly with the band too... 60 lbs the first year, then another 20 lbs to reach goal the first part of the next year. I kept it off for several years until band issues resulted in an empty band... and then the weight just crept back up!

I should add that I have always been a very very slow loser, so like most things your mileage will vary! It will definitely stop any regain of your current success, and make it easier to maintain. My surgeon's coordinator is also a band to sleeve revision, and said that it is common for band revision to lose slower... I have no idea why. I am losing faster than I did with the band though.

I'm doing well I think. Down 43lbs or so in under 4 months. Could be faster but I feel healthier than with the band. Weaning off the nexium now.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
