Does anyone know if you are on a three month med supervised diet (Cigna) do you have to have monthly nutrional classes or meet w a nutritionist three times? Can you follow a "mindful eating & exercise" plan without that?

I ask bc it is going to throw my ENTIRE timeline off bc I can't seem to find a NUT who will schedule me in ALL of Orlando for NOV/DEC!!!!

get a referral from your surgeons office. they might be able to get you in sooner. if not make a appointment and ask to be put on a list in case of cancellation by another patient. its always worked for me.

You might want to call your insurance and your surgeon on this.

I have BCBS and my supervised diet was completed with the monthly weigh-ins and consultations with my surgeon.

I did not have to see a seperate nutritionist. Every insurance is different with the requirments though- I have several people who's insurance requirements were the same as mine.

I have Aetna and I have to meet with the nutritionist and trainer monthly. Luckily, my surgeon's office has them on staff! Last appointment is Nov 11. Hopefully, we can submit to insurance and get a surgery date after that!

I have Aetna and it just mentions I need to have multidisciplinary care for 3 months including nutritionist, MD, and psychologist. Doesn't state how many visits of each are needed, etc. So my surgeon said his first visit with me can count as day 1 because it fulfills the requirement. :) Hoping it goes relatively easy when it is submitted.

Thank you all for your help, mine does not specify how many visits either ...I'm a little concerned I will be denied if I only go once but its so hard to get appointments

Also I keep hearing some people say that I might be denied if I lose weight in my three month period? Are any of you losing weight on ur diet?

I have Cigna open access plus and my requirements were 90 days of a supervised diet. It could have been with my PCP or a nutritionist...Cigna would have accepted either. And mine was a mindful eating program with walking.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
