Anyone approved by insurance with BMI less than 40?

Recommended Posts

I am curious to see how the lap band (or if it does) help with the R.A. I was under the impression they would not give one with auto immune diseases, although they refer more to lupus.

Well congrats and good luck. Keep us posted.

My RA doctor believe that the less weight that I have on my joints the better my joints will feel. Of course I havent lost enough weight yet to tell. I guess we will see....

Obviously you have recieved enough answers but I was approved with a BMI of 35 but I have diabetes, sleep apnea, GERD and High bp. They warned me not to lose an ounce though cause I was at the lowest you could be. I will be banded October 13th.

Good luck!

My BMI was 33 and I had 150 pages of documentation from 3 Dr's. relating how my weight contributed to my diabetes, high blood pressure, GERD, and sleep apnea. Cigna's doctor (!!) send a denial stating that none of these issues were sufficient for the surgery.

Mt surgeon's office referred me to the Obesity Law and Advocacy Group (www.obesitylaw.com) located in San Diego (I live in Virginia). They are a free service, paid for by the Realize Band company. It took them a month, after I completed their application form and they received all 150 pages from the surgeon's office to get the appeal submitted. Within 30 days Cigna approved me, no questions or comments made!!

Yahoo! Scheduled for October 7th .

BCBS of NC They did not approve the first time-- with these weights and BMI-- they stated they had to be 40 for 2010 and 2011-- for 2 years prior.and I didn't have any comorbids. I was so upset---

2010-5ft 3in 206lbs 36.5 BMI

2011-5ft 3in 217lbs 36.5 BMI

2012 5ft 3in 226 40.0 BMI

---------------------------------------

Then to come to find out the doctors didn't get my correct weight for 2010 which was 5ft 3 in 230-- 40.0 BMI---

They are sending in an appeal and I hope they approve this go around but the doctors office still thinks they will not since 2011 was not a BMI of 40

Can you Appeal for the 3rd time around -- does anyone know? It just makes me upset that i'm considered overweight either way- and i'm just a few points away on the BMI scale last year to be in the approval range- that Just gets me!!

Any Help from any one? thanks

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
