Sorry but there are WAY too many variables to answer that question. Are you going through insurance or self-pay? If insurance, which company (they all have different requirements). What part of the country do you live in? Which surgery? Do you have a surgeon selected? etc..... If this helps, I first saw my surgeon on Jan 26. I was covered under insurance (Cigna) which required a 3 month pre-op nutrition visits in addition to other things. On my first visit to the surgeon they said probably about 5 months but that was because it was earlier in the year. As you get closer to the end of the year, the surgeon's schedules are much busier as everyone is trying to get surgery in before the end of the year due to deductibles on their insurance. My surgery was June 4. I am in TX where we have A LOT of surgeons. There are some folks on here who have waited a year and some who have had surgery in as little as a month (obviously no insurance requirements or self-pay and in my opinion you cannot get mentally ready for this in only a month).

hope that helps!

I believe the poster is speaking about Mexico. Contact the site here at bariatric Pal for there surgeons. Depending on how busy your surgeon is you can get your surgery pretty quick. I had my gastric bypass with Dr Zavalza on September 4th. I think I booked 6 weeks in advance and got the date I requested. It was an excellent experience with an excellent Dr. You won't be disappointed. My deposit was 500.00 and I had to have my full surgery paid two weeks in advance. Also the coordinators are awesome and you can email or phone them.

Yes thank you. I was referring to Mexico. I live in Southern California, near LA, so about 2 hours from TJ. I was thinking about going to PV for surgery though. Id like to schedule for the end of March. My spouse thinks I'm crazy for considering Mexico but I am self-pay. My bmi is about 40 but I have no co-morbidities so insurance won't cover it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
