Pain & bloating after eating

Recommended Posts

I had lap-band surgery a year and a half ago. I found out I was pregnant so my doctor removed my fill about a month ago due to the pregnancy. A few weeks ago I started having complications after eating. About 30 minutes after eating anything, no matter how much, I start having pain around the spot where the band is and I have horrible bloating. I feel like my insides are going to explode. It is extremely uncomfortable and lasts for about 5 hours. Has anyone had this happen and does anyone know what could be causing this?? :help:Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

What they won't tell you is that you are more prone to ulcers. I had seven a year after being banded. I had never had any previously. I had pain and burning. Talk to your doc about a proton pump inhibitor such as prontonix which reduces the acid. Also you might want to try some digestive enzymes...they worked good for me.

I had this same problem while pregnant. How far along are you? At first it felt like pain and bloating in the earlier weeks. Eventually, it would get to where I had trouble breathing in the later months. I ended up having to see a pulmonologist because of this and he figured out that the extra contents of my abdomen were putting pressure on my Vagus nerve. The Vagus is the nerve at the top of your stomach that tells your brain that you are full - the principle behind the band... in other words your brain gets the signal you are full even with a very small amount of food. The trouble with this is that the Vagus nerve also has a part in telling your lungs to breath for you... so when you get pressure on it your brain gets the message that you are smothering, etc. I had to take Prevacid twice a day and he prescribed an Advair diskus to help open my lungs as well. Hope this helps.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
