I'm 12 days post op and I was wondering when everyone else started going to the gym. Before surgery I use to workout all the time (every other day). I lifted weights and did cardio. So my desire for the gym is through the roof right now.

However, I've had a slower recovery and I know that if I went, I probably wouldn't last too long.

I have no weight restrictions anymore but I know well enough not to go back and try to squat the 150 pounds I could before surgery.

So when did people go back to the gym and what exercises did they start with first?

Obviously my surgery and my health come first so I'm willing to wait. My surgeon just said when you feel ready.

I started with light cardio after 2 weeks then light lifting after 3 weeks. Mostly machines. No core work until 6 weeks. My recovery was quicker then most. Don't overdo it and listen to your body. If it hurts, stop.

I started out walking for the first two weeks after surgery, then once my surgeon cleared me, I worked out lightly and gradually worked my weights and intensity back up.

I walked immediately after surgery. Started going to the gym 1 month after surgery and love every minute. I do notice significant pain after core days so I limit those to 2 days per week for now. I'm 3 months post op and down 44lbs

I am 7 days post op and walking 30 min and a shower wipe me out, am I lagging or is this normal at this point.

Trust me it's so normal. That was me. I'm 13 days out and I still have to nap a few times a day. If I'm out more than a couple hours I'm exhausted.

My recovery for some reason was tough. My stomach/abdomen region hurt for about 5 weeks. I joined the gym about 6 weeks after the surgery. Although I must admit I have only gone twice (I know, I know)...however, I have other medical conditions and have to be uber careful. However, now that I have a more structured schedule, I plan to start going at least 3-4 times per week. Focusing on different things with each work out. My doc advised no heavy exercise for at least six weeks, but walking at least 30 minutes daily. I think each provider has a different criteria. Check in with your doc and see what he/she says and then go for it. I wish you the best of luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
