4 days post op...trying a 3 mo.liquid diet?

Recommended Posts

Hi I was banded July 10th.Everything seems to be going good.

Has anyone ever heard on New Directions. My doctor mentioned it to me and said it will accelerate my weight loss and still give proper protein/nutrition etc. It is a diet consisting of all shakes followed weekly by a doctor.

I decided to try it. It has been kind of difficult but is getting easier now that I have been banded. It is a High Protein low carb shake. I have read that returning to solids as soon as possible is important. Does anyone know why? My doctor is not to concerned about this and says I can start my regular phases puree/soft solid/solid when my 3 mos. is over. Just curious is anyone else has tried anything similar with the band?:nervous

I haven't heard of this so far -- or read about it here either. But I bet it works. As you read you will find that as LB'ers moved to solids - we hit plateaus.

When I hit plateaus and find my weight going up a pound a day for a few days -- I go back to liquids and bars to take it back down.

I wish you the best of luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure of the reasoning behind that as the idea of the band is NOT to drink liquids, but that is after the healing phase.

However, the goal is also not to get to solids as soon as possible, many docs take six weeks to get to full solids. The upside to this is that you'll have lots and lots of time to heal after surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
