I have a buddy golf trip planned in 6 weeks, wondering if any of you have any experience playing golf 6 weeks post-op. I was sleeved 10/1/15, starting weight 280, sleeved at 268, and 257 one week post-op.

Thanks for any of your feedback and experience!

I haven't a clue.

I'm jealous, though. :) You'll be back to the game well before I will be.

A torn ankle tendon on my downswing with a 3-wood on Sep 1, 2010.....Morehead City CC. We were in the fairway of the first par 5. The group ahead had cleared the green and I was going for it....trying to make up for a week drive.

Snap. Ouch. Surgery two weeks later. No more golf since.

I'm hoping that I'll reach my weight loss goal and regain good back flexibility and core strength all along. I'll evaluate this and see where I'm at. Maybe a Tommie Copper ankle sleeve and an easy swing and I'll be back in the game. :)

Good luck. Hopefully your surgeon can answer your question on when you can return to the game.

I asked my surgery this very question and she said 2 weeks.

She is Sheila Partridge, head of surgery at Newton Wellesley - #1 ranked wls center of excellence in Massachusetts. She seems pretty strict about everything else.

I'm going in next Wednesday (8 days post op) and I'll ask her again.

I golf, and honestly couldn't imagine swinging a club at full force/speed/rotation at 2 weeks post op.

Maybe physically you wouldn't do any damage...(I question that)...but take it easy. You use your core a lot to golf. You are still healing.

For example, if your doc said no heaving lifting for 6 weeks, I'd put it in that category.

Just my opinion :-)

Hit'em straight!!

Speak with your doctor. It honestly depends on how you are healing. I resumed workouts at full strength on week 3. As long as your incisions are healed, and most are 6 weeks out, then you should be fine. Just keep in mind if you feel any pulling or tugging you should stop.

Yeah, this makes sense. I was thinking the same thing on heavy lifting. I was planning on using the time before to maybe just chip and putt, no full swings until 6 weeks. . . Probably best for the golf game AND my recovery!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
