Walk, walk, walk...but it hurts to get of bed.

Recommended Posts

Okay... I had surgery yesterday and when I lay down and get up I have this stabbing pain at the port site. It worries me and it's harder to get up and walk since that's what my doctor said I had to do frequently. Did this happen to anyone else?

This is normal...and after a few days it will be so much better....just hang in there and try to walk as much as possible..just take it slow ....don't try to walk to fast and do overdo it...just take it nice and easy....and take your pain meds, if you have to...that is what they are for...

I am more sore than yesterday on the port side... They gave me that "tummy teddy" bear and I've found it really helps when I get up or cough or practice my deep breathing. I also keep him around when I walk around the house in case I need to sit down along the way. A stiff-rolled up blanket will work too -- just press it toward you to use your arms and legs to get up instead of your stomach muscles.

Hope this helps anyone out there in the same boat. Although I bet by now the original poster is out there doing marathons!

Hey girl! Keep it up! I have not had my band surgery yet - only one more month to go - but I did have surgery with my ovaries this last April. The pain was so bad that I had to have my dad come and get me off the couch. I had a burn feeling from up to down and was in serious pain.

I must admit though - the more I got up and walked around the better I got. Later I asked the doctor what the deal was. He looked at me and said - although on the outside it doesn't look like we did much - you still had major surgery on the inside. HE later went on to say that a lot of the pain were the muscle and nerve endings fusing together. This might be the source of some of your pain.

Just count to ten - breathe in and out and get moving honey! Just think - the faster you get up the faster you can lose the weight! Good luck on your journey!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
