I was informed yesterday that my insurance was approved for 11/19. I was a little bit scared after I got the call from my doctors office to schedule surgery and my final pre-op and all post-op appointments along with pre-surgery labs and X-rays but I am keeping my eye on the prize and looking forward to living a healthier life.

Congrats!!! and i fully understand the feeling after the call.. I was happy I had a date, but then my brain said.."hey buddy this is it" and then I started thing about things I need to pack and questions I wanted to ask..but don't worry I think we both have about 4weeks to simmer down and focus.

surgery date is November 2. Start my liquid diet on Oct 19th. Nervous but excited.

Congrats!!!

Just got my call. November 16th. I feel like I'm going to throw up and poop my pants at the same time. I've been on journey for 8 long months and now I am terrified. I feel like I have a lump in my throat!!!

Congrats!! I think we are all going to feel the same at one point or another in the next few weeks. For me, it'll probably be when I get on the plane to Mexico.

I don't have a date yet but hoping to get a Nov. 23ish date...I am self pay and was told by my doctor's office that once I did all my prerequisites that my surgery could possibly be scheduled as early as 2 weeks. I only have my upper GI to do this week....I'm kind of hoping they find a hiatal hernia so my insurance will kick in for part of the hospital stay.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
