Hello everyone,

I just got banned on 6/21/07, i'm feeling fine, I'M ON SOFT FOODS BUT I AM KIND OF SCARED TO EAT CAUSE I DONT WANT TO THROW UP. ITS LIKE WHEN I CHEW AND THEN SWALLOW I'M BASICALLY NOT SWALLOWING NOTHING. AND I EAT UNTIL I FEEL MY HUNGER IS GONE NOT FULL. BUT I DRINK A LOT OF FLUIDS AND I STILL HAVE A Protein Shake DURING THE DAY. I STARTED OUT AT 220 NOW I'M DOWN TO 194. I WALK EVERYDAY FOR 45 MINS.

Done! Your Ticker:

Hi,

I was banded on June 22, so I am at the same stage you are at. I have not had any problems. I have lost 15 pounds which I contribute to the 2 weeks of liquids (1 wk pre-op, 1 wk post-op) I haven't dropped any more weight. I am a bit frustrated. Anyone else experiencing this?

Just chew, chew, chew and you will be okay.

Ms D, MANY MANY MANY MANY people experience this. It is perfectly NORMAL. You just were on very very few calories and lost quickly, now you are taking more in *and* you had surgery, your body needs calories to heal itself, so it's holding on to every last one it gets. It will all even out, just follow the rules as best you can and after your first fill (which will very likely NOT provide restriction, it takes a couple of them to do that) you should start to see the scale move. MANY bandsters actually GAIN a few lbs before that first fill.

I was banded on 6/18. I went to solids yesterday. I have had no problems. I feel exactly as I did before surgery. No restriction! My only reminder is this little button sticking out of my upper tummy!

Yesterday I had 1/2 can tuna with 1 t mayo and some watermelon. dinner was a Lean Cuisine and I had a 1/2 bran muffin. I'm eating small amounts to see if I can stay full on that much.

Thanks FaithMD. That does make me feel better. I was getting a little wigged out about doing surgery for a measly 15 pounds.

Thanks again !

Hi Again Nyree 34 and other June newbies,

I must have deleted my first e-mail to you when I put the weight chart in. Anyway, I had surgery on June 22nd and have about the same amount of weight to lose. I am having no trouble eating. In fact I feel like I am eating too much especially after I get home from work..but I am working on it!

Your 45 minute walks a day have inspired me. I've been walking about 20 minutes but just got back from a 30 minute walk at a faster pace. I'd love to stay in touch with you and others who started around the same time.

Best regards,

Grateful in Seattle

Sounds like you are doing greast. I have soft food syndrom as well sometimes because I am afraid I will PB. I can tell you this though. The hunger will return if you don't eat enough solid Protein. I now make sure I have my Protein Shake in the a.m. followed by 1/2 - 1/4 sandwich with meat and cheese for lunch. That keeps me pretty full until dinner. Make sure you take really small bites and chew well. That will also help with the PBs. You should eat more than the size of a pencil eraser at once. Good luck.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
