I was craving a cold Pepsi . I'm 6 months post op. I drink crystal light slightly frozen and remind myself that carbonated drinks can be harmful. Crystal light comes in a variety of flavors.

For me, a coke was never the same again after surgery. Sure it tastes the same, but I couldn't enjoy it because the carbonation was too distracting, and it would go flat by the time I could get halfway into it. Carbonation can potentially stretch the stomach as well. I replaced my poison with iced espresso, it wasn't the the taste of soda pop I was actually addicted to- but the caffeine!

I had my surgery 8/17. For me I'm not craving soda because I gave it up a long time ago. I am definitely having "head" hunger and being around food that is tempting is tough, especially because I have now had my period twice since the surgery. I haven't been perfect. I did have about 6 tortilla chips yesterday and on another day I did eat a couple of pretzels and a small piece of blueberry bread. Dealing with "head" hunger is hard. Right now I am dog sitting at a friends house and they have EVERYTHING under the sun here to be tempted with. I'm not even going to list the food because it would just make it worse. I did pretty good, and only managed to be tempted by the tortilla chips. I put them in the cabinet so they wouldn't be staring me in the face.

I have a problem with food. It's how I got up to 295lbs. I'm trying my best to do better and I'm thinking at this point that I really do need to go back and see the psychiatrist I initially met with to try to resolve some stuff. I don't want things to get out of hand and I DO NOT want to sabotage my weight loss.

Best of luck.

I was the same way about coffee until this morning. I have been craving a nice hot cup of coffee with cream... mmm... sounded so good. Until I took a drink this morning. I have horrible heartburn and my tummy hates me for it.

*Sigh* I no longer want to drink coffee.

Margie I feel you, with all the summer bbq's. It was tempting with all the food around. I refused some invites but the ones I did go to, I distracted myself with other activities , music, dancing good excersise just enjoying my friends. I ate mostly meat in small amount and veggies. I drank pro tie shake before going. I think that helped a lot. We can be successful with consistency .

I was craving soda too, I have been so bad though I am sure that's why I haven't seen the scale move for the last couple days. I'm like you Margie, I am having the worst head hunger. I had my surgery August 24 so I am still not even supposed to be eating regular foods but I am dying on this mushy food stuff. I had a couple tortilla chips today, chewed them until they were mush in my mouth but still.

I'm 3 months out and have had soda. I've never drank a whole can, only had sips, and it hurt.

To me, it still tastes the same but the carbonation REALLY hurts. It's like a big surprise you weren't expecting.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
