Has anyone had luck with yoga post-op with the sleeve? How soon did you try it? I've enjoyed yoga-infused workouts in the past and am excited to get back into it. I know it's low impact, but not certain about what the wait time might be for the stretching required. TIA!

I think I would've still hurt too much the first couple of months - I didn't try it until about 6 months in, but it was totally new to me. Went much better than expected!

Thanks @@roundisashape! Did you try other exercises that were less painful in the beginning? I feel like walking is what everyone does at the beginning, but I'm getting my sleeve in October...in Michigan... Going outdoors in the fall here can be a bit tricky at times.

Ah, I've got friends in the UP and I don't know how you guys live there in the winter!

If you've got a gym to go to, I'd stick with the treadmill early on and when things stop hurting, try a trainer who will work with you and stop if something doesn't feel right. I tried Zumba a couple of times in the back of the room where I could go slower.

At home, youtube videos of those walk away the pounds videos were awesome! I still use them once in a while.

Congrats on getting your date!!

I started working out (cardio) at about 2 months out. I felt great, never any issues. I haven't tried yoga yet, but my surgeon suggested it because he said that it can help with loose skin over time since you are stretching with yoga poses. I say try it when you feel comfortable and just take it easy in the beginning.

@@roundisashape, know some Yoopers, eh? I'm not THAT far North, but still unpredictable. I hadn't heard of those videos, I'll have to look it up. Thanks!

@@krista132 Glad to know it's recommended for loose skin, definitely want to combat that!! Thanks!

Is there a particular reason why you waited 6 months before starting yoga? I signed up for a free yoga class next week and definitely don't want to push my body too soon.

@@AngelaWilliamsMD, no, not really - I just wasn't confident I could do it! I think I could've tried it much earlier except that there was still too much of me and I got in my own way :).

LOVE YOGA!!! started slowly about a month out and now practice daily going to classes 3-4 times a week. Just make sure you get a teacher who can help explain modifications to you as you are starting out.

Much as a love yoga, though, it did NOTHING for my loose skin. Genetics, age, how long you've been overweight, if you've yo-yo'd all have more impact.

I'll give you my view why I think its best to wait a while.

I waited 4 months before trying yoga again. Had nothing to do with sleeve, had everything to do with weight and balance. You develop a certain amount of what is referred to as muscle memory doing yoga. I think a rapid shifting of weight and muscle during the first four months is the wrong time to develop it. I can't prove this, but that is the criteria I used. So I walked for first month. Slowly added weight training and then running into the mix. Month four began hot yoga classes and the results were dang spectacular. Your results will vary.

You just want to be careful.. My surgeon said cardio was the first thing and I started that three weeks out.. But anything with core muscles you want to wait a couple months at least to make sure your all healed up!

Well that's a bummer it didn't help your skin! I'm glad to hear you were able to do it so soon, though. Thanks for the advice!

Thank you, @OKCPirate. I'm really hoping to strengthen my core asap because I have severe back problems that can only be helped with losing belly weight and strengthening my core. I thought yoga would be my best route, but I can see where that might do more harm than good in the beginning.

Thanks @@Smills, it sounds like cardio is really the way to go at first.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
