A wise friend who had bypass told me that it's funny; her stomach will tolerate a lot more "junk" than it will healthy food. She got herself going in the wrong direction but quickly righted her ship. What the doctors preach is true in every account: Protein first, Protein first, protein first.

I think the time to really focus is long before the six month mark. This isn't really directed at you, because what is done is done, and you just have to do your best to get back on track, but more for people (like me) who are early in their journey.

I think the first year is the time to retrain your brain while the restriction is at it's best, so when your body adjusts and your are able to eat more, you've broken those carb addictions, or whatever your vice may be. I'm not saying I'm going to be perfect in my first year (hell, I'm only three weeks out), but I have to keep reminding myself that the things I'm "giving up" for now may have a small place back in my diet someday, or (even better!) I may not even crave them any more!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
