Looking for those who had sleeve in August 2015

Recommended Posts

I had the sleeve Aug 27, I just started phase 3, It is much better, I have had tuna salad, (no onions grapes or nuts) on toast and it was so good! I have had fish but didnt do well with fish. I am down 23lbs. I had a week without losing as well, but looks like it has picked up. My energy level seems to be getting better the more I am able to eat. I am meeting my Protein goal, but my liquid goal suffers... its a struggle

Lots of August 11th folks on here! Yay. I too was stalled and disappointed in my post-surgery weight loss. As of this week, things are starting to get better on the scale and I'm a little bit less hungry than I was before. That's a good thing. I lost 22 pounds on the pre-op diet and only 19 since the surgery. I know someone will say, "only 19?" but as was pointed out above, when you are eating about 800 calories a day that seems pretty slow. Also compared to what others report. I had two whole weeks with no loss at all. It's back on track now though so I'm good.

@@Sherri1964 ooohh, you get toast? My doctor said no bread, Pasta or rice for the first 6 months. I miss it! But I have found some creative ways to have "sandwiches." My favorite is smoked salmon or smoked trout, Laughing cow cheese, and capers rolled up in a lettuce leaf.

Isn't it amazing how the directives from different doctors vary so widely?

HI, I am exactly 4 weeks postop, Im in the soft semisolid food, not much variety, but ok for now. I feel Im more nauseous than before with some days with constant severe nausea since I started semisolids. I can tolerate yoghurts mostly, dont get enough Proteins in as my stomach doesnt tolerate the Protein shakes too well, I find it hard to get all my Vitamins as well as Im food averse!, also I find Im constantly training myself to eat slower, and \i do get some stomach discomfort. There are days when I revert back to thick liquids, as the semisolids make me nauseous. Im very sick of carrots, but Im still not allowed meat, bread, Pasta or fish, which leaves me with Soups , mashed vegies, cerelac, millk and yoghurt. Also I tried egg white today and I was very nauseous. I ve got so much nausea these days that Im inclined to do a pregnancy tests, fingers cross it will be negative! i wasnt that nauseous right after the surgery its is only since the semisolids. I have to say Im getting depressed with this nausea, it is very debilitating.

I forgot to mention I lost 12.5 kg in 4 weeks, Im happy with it.

Hey Sleeved on August 26th -- had no issues, and recovery has been great. I feel like I am finally getting my strength back and do not get fatigued like I was in the beginning. Have a major knee issue that has kept me from walking the last couple days which is disappointing... I feel activity has really helped with the lbs melting away! Hope everyone is doing well tonight!

Sleeve 8/19. Never got hungry until two days ago. Is that normal a month out to start to get hungry?

I'm eating 8oz shake for Breakfast 4 oz for lunch and dinner nothing else

I don't like this hunger feeling

Stuart, are you allowed to eat mushy/soft foods yet? That step is so much better than the liquid drinks for hunger.

Yes. I've been mushy/puréed for over two weeks and this new found hunger has only been around the past two/three days

I was sleeved 8/3- had a very rough first week in the hospital. Down 51.5 lbs ( this includes 15lbs I lost in the 2 months before surgery).

I am on stage 3, and can not even imagine how I am suppose to fit a fruit or veggie in- it is hard enough eating 2-2.5 oz of Protein.

I get up at 4 am to go to the gym for an 11/2 hr before work 3-4 days a week and do 90 mins of Water aerobics 2 a week- Sunday I try and get a walk in.

I am tracking all my food and water and range between 551- and 610 calories a day- some days I need to remind myself to eat lunch.< /p>

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
