Purging Post Op

Recommended Posts

Please, please, please don't judge (too hard). Weekends are killing me. It's not meals, it's snacking.

These past few weekends I have found myself binge munching while binge reading. At first it was a handful of almonds or half a Protein bar. Lately it's been cheese popcorn, crackers, ice cream, etc. THEN, I feel terrible (nauseous and guilty) so I go in the bathroom and make myself sick. I used to do this occasionally before WLS. I have been seeing a counselor for years and have touched on this a bit but probably need to tell her the extent of the problem.

I'm five months out and I KNOW this is not good. Has anyone else dealt with this? What did you do to stop?

Thank you in advance for any advice / tough love.

I'm in the same boat! I do really well all week and then the weekend hits! I've been snacking, drinking wine, oh and eating Peanut Butter. I'm 7 months out and scaring myself. I've decided today that I'm not going to go through that anymore! No more wine or unhealthy snacks! My weight loss was slowing down so I think I was getting discouraged and figured why not sneak something her and there, I wasn't losing anyway. But I realize this is what got me in trouble in the first place and I don't want to go back

Let's start a new day and be disciplined! We can do this!

Its understandable to start down the eating disorder road after having to switch drastically to this new lifestyle. Heres the thing, you CANNOT continue on the road you are on and hope to succeed. You mentioned a counselor. Have you told them about this. or do you downplay it or not mention it? It is somewhat easier to mention online because we have anonymity to a degree, we dont have to face the yes of anyone else. My advice and please understand it is only advice. Is to please be very upfront with your counselor.

Now i will admit, that at first when i had some issues with my sleeve and threw up. I had those easy thoughts of, hey if i throw-up this is like eating, i get the act of chewing the swallowing and all that but i dont get " charged" with the calories and sugars etc. It is a very tempting path to go down. But you simply cannot do it. There is no magic bullet, no special way to get over it. I can say that it is within you to be a success at this, I truly beleive that you will.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
