Newbie over 60 loosing slowly

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm over 60 and had surgery August 19, ( I wonder if I will ever forget that date, not likely).

I could use support from a winner. I read how people are loosing 20 lbs or 25 in the same amount of time and it depresses me. Thanks!!!!

Don't compare. There are simply too many variable that come into play with how fast or slow a person loses. The point is that you lose at a rate that is healthy for you.

Just like everything in life, if you compare yourself to someone, one person is almost always going to leave that conversation unhappy.

This is YOUR journey, no one else's. Embrace the fact that you took this step to change your life and make yourself better. I know how you feel - I considered myself a "slow loser" and it was frustrating at times.

You are unique in so many ways - your age, your path to being obese, your metabolism, your muscle mass, etc.

Your ticker says "56 pounds lost. 36 lbs. more to go."

Tell me again why you're depressed?

But if you're intent on becoming un-depressed, make a big list of all the reasons why you're losing your excess weight and what you want to do now that you're no longer obese.

And start checking things off. Your future happiness will come from what you do with your healthier body. Not how fast the scale moves.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
