Help! 5 months post RNY and back to Stage 2 and 3

Recommended Posts

Due to constant stomach pain I'm going to try going back to a full liquids/soft diet for a bit. I think part of the issue is having difficulty digesting dairy. I need suggestions for getting 15 grams of dairy-free, soft Protein 5 times a day. I'm also curious if others have experienced bloating, gas and feeling like a brick was in their intestines even with daily bowel movements?

It definitely sounds like it could be lactose intolerance. In the very beginning I had this issue and had to switch to lactose free dairy products and had to change to a new Protein drink as well.

Now my case was fairly mild but it was miserable and I was not getting my Protein in.

I switched to lactaid brand cottage cheese because I did very well with it. Also I started using Premier Protein ready made shakes and still use them 11 months later.

You might try also re fried Beans. Puréed chicken, scrambled eggs.

Try adding unflavored Protein Powder to your foods to get the extra Protein that you need. Try non dairy foods like almond milk, almond yougurt, etc.

Prior to surgery I could not have milk, cottage cheese or ice cream even if it was lactose free, however cheese was not an issue. I do not think it is the lactose that causes the problems, possibly another component of dairy. I'm hoping to find a completely dairy free alternative to Protein without whey or casein. I wish there was a low carb, high Protein almond or coconut alternative but I have not found any that are adequate protein sources.

I do not love them, but Isopure may be an option. Not sure if you may be allergic to whey?

If so, get a non-whey Protein...

Best of luck to you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
