Had surgery August 4th. Have some questions for everyone.

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on August 4th, everything went well, I've lost a total of about 15-20 pounds since then. I do however have a problem, though there is nothing that can be done, I've been getting cravings for certain foods that lets face it, I won't be able to enjoy until several months from now. I also work night shifts and returned to work just this week 08/27 was my first day back. I've felt cravings as well but of course ignore them and just drink Water or go have some pudding.

So my question is this, has anyone since surgery felt cravings too? What did you do to avoid it and ignore it and do any of you work night shifts too? If you work night shifts what kind of foods did you bring during your 3-4 week post op? I know starting Tuesday 09/01 I'll be able to incorporate thin slices of deli meat and fish, which makes me very excited!

Thanks in adanced!!

I'm 9 wks out and I crave tons of things, but I know I can't eat them. I literally can't. I couldn't stand it one night about three weeks out and had one bite of pizza. Threw up immediately. Took a bite of a chicken nugget. Same thing. So, it was a good lesson. I tell my husband every night...I want an egg roll, a donut, a burrito, corn dogs...we just laugh and I eat my turkey and cottage cheese. I refuse to feel like crap, I do eat what will make my belly happy. I eat random stuff. Whatever sounds good. Nuts, deli meat, veggies and dip, Cereal, Peanut Butter. You'll see what sits well. Good luck. ❤️

Everytime I drive past a Buffalo Wild Wings I want their popcorn shrimp, French fries, and mango lemonade. But I just don't stop. We will all have cravings but just remind yourself that you wanted to lose weight snd be healthy so badly that you were willing to have surgery. I also find that most of my cravings come from old habits more than wanting food. If you are at work and you've always had these certain things then habit makes you want them. I bought a small cooler that I take with me that has healthy Snacks, cold Water and cold Protein Shake. When old habits rear their head, I have something I brought. I try not to let myself get caught in a bind.

I had my surgery Aug 4th I have been eating shaved deli meat . I have a lot of cravings. But I don't give into them. I went back to work August 17th . I was bored and couldn't take being at home all day. I am mostly eating tuna, Peanut Butter , chili with 90% lean ground beef ,yogurt and Protein Shake . I haven't had in vomiting. I have been feeling great . But this food thing when to eat and how much . I just haven't caught on yet. I have to me not lost any weight but my clothes says other wise and my face. I don't weigh my self . Only when I go to the dr. 8/10 I was 240. 8/23 I was 232. Starting weight 245 day of surgery.

If you can tolerate it, and if you are far enough out that you can consume it, just have a couple of bites and that should kill the craving. You can't possibly eat enough of it (unless it is high calorie liquid, which you must avoid at all costs) to seriously jeopardize your weight loss. But if you aren't advanced enough for a particular food yet, just eat your approved diet, and don't skip meals, and cravings should stay at bay. I notice that my cravings are the most intense when I go 8 hours or more between eating (not a good idea).

I am dreading facing autumn...thankfully it's still 93 degrees in DC. When the highs dip into the 60s, all the usual fall and winter cravings come to town. I plan on partaking bite-size on cider donuts, potato dumplings, and various German dishes, but look forward to being happy with two or three bites. An added benefit is that I won't be thinking about it all day every day as long as I have some. If I don't like what happens to my weight loss, I'll come off of them right away and up the ante on exercise (much easier for me in the fall than in the heat).

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
