I'm trying to get more informed everyday before my surgery on Thursday, but all this talk of dumping and frothing are really making me nervous! It feels like the more I know, the less I really do! I guess you just have to experience it yourself. ( TMI) I've had hemorrhoid surgery, and after that, I believe I can handle this.

I'm also afraid my family is going to get sick of this process before it's over.

TMI, I've had the hemorrhoid surgery too and believe me....if you made it through that, you can easily handle this! It was far worse than VSG. :)

My surgery went great and I never experienced nausea or gas. I had the sleeve done and have never frothed or dumped. Not everyone has issues. Good luck!

Everyone reacts to the surgery differently - you may never get the slimes, you may never get the frothy stuff or dump. I had a seamless recovery from surgery - I only took 2 pain pills and that was so I could sleep.

I think it's perfectly normal to be nervous - I know I was. But, I can tell you, here I am nearing my 2 year mark and I am so happy and grateful I had this opportunity.

This just happened this afternoon - I usually hid from people I knew in high school. Seriously, I would avoid going to the grocery store that is 2 miles away from house and go to the store across town where I would be less likely to see someone. I was so ashamed of what I had become. Today at the ballpark, I noticed this guy that I told my husband, "I feel like I should know who that is, but I can't place it." About an hour later, he sits next to me and says my name. I said, "Who are you?" He told me - I haven't seen him in over 25 years, since high school. Then another guy comes up and he tells me his name and he's a guy I went to high school with as well. We sat there for about 30 minutes catching up and chatting and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is something I missed out on for years - I have more confidence now, I'm more proud of myself now.

You got this - you're going to do great. Do not let fear win.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
