H. Pylori? Answers please!

Recommended Posts

Just had my endoscopy on August 19th. My drs. office called today to say I had h. Pylori. I'm on antibiotics for two weeks. I'm in the middle of my pre-surgery diet. My surgery is scheduled for Sept. 3rd. Is this gonna cancel my surgery? They didn't say that when they called me today. I'm about to cry worrying about it. I'm ready. I don't want to wait.

Got to call your surgeon, it's up to him/her. I hope it all works out, good luck

My surgeon mentioned it and tested me for it when I started this process over 6 months ago. I was negative at that time. He said he would test again before the surgery and if I was positive it would be treated with antibiotics as you mention. He acted as if it would be no big deal either way, but wanted to be prepared.

I am sure everything will be fine. Good luck!

They're just treating it before surgery. I didn't have it but my doc told me it would not prevent surgery. I has the nose swab come back positive for bacteria. I had to use a salve for 10 days before surgery. You'll be fine.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
