Surgery Drain Removal Ouch!?

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow will be one week since my Loop DS with Dr. Cottom. The drain they left in is driving me crazy. How long did your doctors leave the drain in? They will be removing my staples tomorrow and I hope that they will also take my drain out. I am worried that it is going to hurt. Oh and how long did you wear your binder? I would love to hear others experiences. Thanks!

I'm 2 weeks post op from a revision. Band to bypass but I had a drain (just while in the hospital) and also staples. I was really nervous too. The staples were no problem. I pictured some horrendous huge staples but they're not. It was easy. The drain was just weird. It didn't hurt but just a weird sensation. You'll be fine. It's good to be on this side now isn't it? Best of luck and hope it all goes smoothly!

I have my first follow up on Wednesday after my RNY last Monday and I am majorly hoping they take my drain and staples out. Especially the drain - it is driving me insane! Plus, the tape I have to keep it covered is producing an allergic reaction over most of the left side of my abdomen... it's not fun at all and I can't wait to be past it. The drain and the incision it is coming out of are honestly the only things that are even hurting me anymore. Keep us updated!

I had RNY and also had a drain. Fortunately I did not go home with it, I can only imagine how uncomfortable that would be for so long.

In terms of pulling it out, it does not hurt. It just feels strange. I also just had one in my neck where I had spine surgery and that one felt weird too. No pain at all more of a tickle.

Expect some soreness to linger at the drain site long after you have no more pain at your other incisions.

I feel liberated! Having the drain removed was the sensation of a snake being pulled out of me but I immediately felt so much better. Kind of like as they removed the drain they also pulled out all the pain as well. I feel amazing now!

Got my drain and staples out today... SO MUCH BETTER! it did actually hurt but that's because that whole area was raw from an allergic reaction to the tape. Not fun. But the doctor said everything looks perfect! Moving on to pureed foods now... O.o

I know this was from a few months ago, but I also just had loop DS from Cottam last month and they also left my drain in. However 2 days after surgery I woke up with sharp pain in my left side. Thinking it was just gas or something I tried waiting it out, however it continued to get worse so I ended up in the ER and another overnight stay. Turned out it was the drain causing the pain so they had to remove it, once it was out the pain instantly went away and I could Breathe again. It was horrible.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
