Pep talk needed

Recommended Posts

I am two weeks away from my sleeve surgery. I have been unfilled since June and had my band out July 14. I am not on a two week pre-op diet, just Clear liquids the day before AND today has been awful!! If I could find it in the house today I ATE it. I have been yo-yoing since June with my weight and finding it a struggle to not eat anything and everything waiting for my surgery day.

I hope that I have made the right decision. I could not live with my band anymore and it just was not working for me. I only ever lost 50# over 5 years and the last two years have been a hell of puking and starving and then overeating on the days food actually went down. I have gained back 25# and my clothes barely fit anymore. I am so afraid of failure with the sleeve. I can and will eat right with the sleeve that is not my worry. My worry is I will

Have similar problems with the sleeve.

Is the sleeve the answer?? Any success stories/pep talks would be appreciated.

I am worried myself.I should of chosen the RNY back in 2004.I had the choice and I went with the lapband because it was the "new" less invasive way to go....In the end....not really...from what I can see the Sleeve seems to be working for a number of people.I need to take autoimmune drugs that I will be on for the rest of my life.Malabsorbtion is not an option .So I am sticking with the Sleeve...and I am just like you...scarred from the band eating ravenously when I can because I never know when I Am going to barf..,this is what we have become from having the band.It is a form of bulimia....thanks to the band and my food cravings and addictive personality.Go Sleeve and don't look back! You will get on track because that craving enzynme will be reduced.Keep me posted!

I had a band to sleeve revision on June 1st. I've lost more weight since June 1st than I lost in the past 2 years with the band.

I haven't thrown up. I don't have nausea. I don't have that sharp stabbing pain when the port moves and slides over a nerve.

I can eat chicken again. I was never able to eat chicken in any shape, sort or form after the band.

My tastes changed. Sweets don't taste good and don't even look appealing. I've eaten more vegetables in the past 2 months than I've eaten in the past 6 years.

@hockeyfan7-same thing. I used to say I got the band to change how I ate and make good choices. Except the good choices would never go down!! No chicken, minimal veggies (carrots were not my friend), and the junk would just slip right down. What the heck!!

Thank you for the reply. I'm just getting very nervous. My husband is being very supportive (he has the band too), but I am getting a lot of flack from my family about it being not reversible and what's to say the same problems won't occur blah blah blah. I am pretty good at ignoring, but today I was feeling very nervous.

We must address our underlying foods issues as we treat the physical side surgically. I have been where you are, pre op, post op, and in maintenance. My RNY can still be a bottomless pit. I believe I would need to work on this regardless of which weight loss procedure I had.

You are dealing with pre op nerves and no restriction right now. Post op will be better. You will have restriction and the limitations natural to healing.

To MsPink1234,

An FYI for your consideration: All auto immune medications are not inhibited by mal absorption.

Less than 24hrs after my RNY, I sat with a nurse & took a dozen pills by mouth over 20 minutes . My regimen then was around 56 pills/ capsules daily. The surgeon refused to let me crush or break any of them in the event I was prescribed pills that could not be crushed in the future.

My specialists coordinated with my surgeon to ensure the form of each medication was right for me post op. This regimen was also fine for the higher mal absorption of the DS.

I sought out a surgeon that could work with my multiple health issues. You may have more choices than you know.

Having posted about my own insecurities, I can assure you this forum will give you insight and inspiration to realize you're making the right decision. As long as your hubby is supportive, let the nay-saying family members take a hike. You're doing this for your health and body, not to please them. Before you know it you'll be running circles around them asking what they've done lately to keep their own bodies healthy!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
