Breaking the stall and other calorie/carb questions.

Recommended Posts

So I stalled about 2/12 weeks out for 2 weeks. THe past 2 weeks and a half I am back to losing 1 1/2 -2lbs per week. Is it coincidence that in these same two weeks my calories are up to 700-800? On that same note my carbs are really low usually under 30 … mostly I get them from milk. Do you think it is worth experimenting by bringing my carbs up closer to 50? Or, maybe alternating a low and higher carb days? I would love to see slightly higher losses although I am satisfied with just any loss! Hard to believe I am only 6 weeks out! My nutritionist said that she doesn't think I should be counting carbs or calories just tracking Protein but I am too worried this early on to take that advice. Once I am more confident I think I will stop tracking everything every day.

Good for you on the tracking. I use myfitnesspal.com to track all this, but all I care about is the calories, carbs and protien. The stall you described is normal and glad you are back on track. If you are going to do a self experiment with carbs, you might want to increase them every three days, that may keep your body from getting into a pattern. (there are some good articles on this here: http://www.coachcalorie.com).

I was thinking of upping my carbs as well. I'm getting about 25 carbs/day, but have other WLS friends who have been instructed to get at least 50g a day.

@@Bndtoslv There are people who carb cycle to lose weight. I don't know how it all works exactly so you'd have to research it a bit.

Do you think it works? I feel like I would like to maximize my weight loss in these first few months.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
