Major Problems

Recommended Posts

I had the Lap Band put in November 2011. I haven't had any problems with it until about a month ago. I have been having really bad upper abdominal pain and especially around my port area. I have also had some severe acid reflux and can hardly eat anything without it causing my acid to flare up. I am taking an antacid daily but it doesn't seem to help much and it's a maximum strength one. It sometimes hurts to even touch the skin over my port area and I sometimes can't lay on my stomach. When I do lay on my stomach I can feel the port being pushed on and it's not very comfortable at all! I actually went to the ER 3 weeks ago because the pain was so bad. They did blood work and CTs and everything looks great. Then followed up with primary doc and had her rerun lab work and all she found was a UTI. I got married in May and had to get on new insurance so I am having to check with doctor to see if they accept my insurance. Then I can go in and get it all checked out. I am seriously considering having this thing removed. I haven't lost much weight with it. I tend to lose weight and then gain most of it back. I know I can lose the weight on my own since I know now how to properly diet and Portion Control. The only thing that I can thank the band for. I have heard of too many complications from these things and I just want it out. This pain is worsening by the day and persuading me to get it removed. Anyone else experience this kind of pain? If so, what did it end up being?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
