Anyone else with high BMI to start?

Recommended Posts

BMI. 54. No wonder I am so unhappy with myself. Surgery date Nov 11. Diet has been going great, except for that LAST piece of Pecan pie last night. I just wanted to taste it one more time. Anyone else have a craving for one last taste? liquid diet starts Wednesday and I am still tracking every day.

Perfectly normal to want the last tastes. I spent my last month before surgery having those last tastes (shockingly, I didn't gain weight).

I started at a BMI of 63.1 and 403 pounds. Now, 79 days later, I've lost 74 pounds and my BMI is down to 51.5. I'm happy with my progress.

I had several food funerals before my pre-op diet. I am 11 months post-op...started with a BMI of 53...down to 32 (150 lbs lost). Continued success to everyone!

My all time high BMI was 73. When I look at before and after pictures I am amazed that I didn't see how big I had gotten. Still a long way to go, but glad to see the scale moving in the right direction.

This. We need some special glasses that allow us to see what the mirror really shows, and not what our brain thinks is there. The closest I got to that was trying on colored contacts. The person looking back at me from the mirror wasn't ME, it was like seeing myself for the first time. Amazing what a simple eye color change can do,

Wednesday will be 6 months out for me, I started at 287 a BMI of 49. Today woke up at 202 and a BMI of 34.7 which means even with co-morbidites I would be denied for this surgery by insurance company. It's been an amazing journey. Hope to be in onederland by next week.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
