My first group support meeting

Recommended Posts

You all are so wonderful. I wish I could have Scotty beam you all to the same place and we could meet once a month. Sometimes I need the hugs and a pat on the back. I KNOW I will need that once I have the band. thus the support group. (My surgeon requires it) It's just not a good fit for me though. I felt like such an odd ball, and didn't like having to defend my decision.

I see your in Texas. There is a yahoo group called Central Texas Bandsters.

CenTexBandsters : CenTex (Austin Metro) Bandsters

You might want to look on yahoo there might be one more in your area .

This is more for Austin and the surrounding areas

Actually just looking really quick , i know its not real close but here is a Galveston area .

Galveston-Alvin-WLS-support-group : Galveston area WLS support group

Thought I might give you some ideas.

They I know the cen texas group meets one on one . Im in Austin feel free to PM Me

HTH

Hi, My mom had the gastric bypass, and wishes she had the band. She lost a dangerous amount of bone density, 60%, now she is on daily injections she does herself to stimulate bone growth. Also, nutrition is a huge problem for gastric bypass. I like the band, I view it just as permanent, but without many of the irreversable issues.

Aubrie,

You surgeon can require you to attend support group meetings but you can also require him to provide one if that is the case. What you endured was psychological abuse, not support! :)

Have you had your psychological exam yet? Ask the psychologist how healthy he/she thinks that environment is for you. Can we place bets on the answer? Also, your doc probably has or is seeking the endorsement of the Centers for Excellence. Visit their website and contact them if you do not get anywhere with your doc because they specifically require a LAP-BAND support group to give their certification if I am not mistaken. You can also ask you doctor if he will consider this as participating in a support group until he can get one going just for bandsters.

Good luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
