I want of the Lap Band Rollercoaster

Recommended Posts

I was banded in 2004.At that time it was band or bypass.I chose the Band.I am and have been miserable for years.I have completed me to terms with the fact that the band never really worked for me.I was initially 269 and got down to 219.never saw those incredible results.I have struggled with port site bain, bloating, port pain, aches and sliming and vomiting up.I have a "Barf" bag that I have on hand.I am always hungry, acid reflux is off the hook!I am a bulimic because I never know when I can keep it down.Had my gallbladder out 5 years ago.I am going to the doctor to see about a gastric sleeve revision.I am miserable and in pain.

I had pretty much same issues. I had the band removed in March of this year. My Dr. had me wait 3 months. I am getting the sleeve 8/17. I can't wait !. My husband was sleeved in Feb. and is down 91 lbs. Looking forward to the next chapter.

91 pounds???!!!I would be in heaven!Men have a much easier time.I think the sleeve is the only sane option for me.I have PCOS,history of a blood clot, insulin resistance.High cholesterol...my PCP is concerned. My port site protrudes and is sore.My back (left hand side hurts, burping, acid reflux,Post breast cancer.Putting on weight after breast cancer is not cool.I am going in to see this new dr with all guns blazing.I don't want to hear diet?I can't diet because I can't always tolerate foods or even tea sometimes.I am a bigger thanks to the ban.Sometimes I can eat with no problem other times ugh.Always hungry.Miserable.

Early last June 2014 I weighed 235 pounds. I was sleeved in mid-August, reached my weight goal (150 pounds) in April 2015, and have maintained below that (at 143-145 pounds) since then.

The sleeve alone doesn't fix our weight and health problems. However, if you learn to eat nutritiously, exercise and move more, and address any emotional and disordered eating issues you have, you can change your life!

I cannot believe the life I now have, compared to what my life was like a year and a half ago. It's night and day.

Best to you.

Self pay or insurance?

There is a high lap band failure rate...insurance should be glad to cover the sleeve revision...it's easier for them. They save money in the long run

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
