Cauliflower, bumpy skin below incision

Recommended Posts

I had gastric bypass 3 days ago, and just came home yesterday. My incisions have been looking fine--I did spring a leak in the hospital in one and again yesterday--same one. The nurse wasn't too concerned in the hospital, just put a gauze on it. I did the same yesterday and it was fine. Tonight when I looked at it, the area below my incision looked all bumpy and kind of like cauliflower ear that wrestlers get. Does anyone know anything about this? I should be sleeping, but I'm a bit freeked out.

You should contact your doctor.

I don't know what they used to close the skin incision on you but for me it was a type of lidocain glue.I had my RNY 7 days ago and on the 2nd and 3rd day one of the doctors kept asking if my if a particular incision hurt or was itchy at all and I said no. It was look pretty nasty, turns out they called my surgeon and he said I was having an allergic reaction and peeled it off all my incisions, the bariatric nurse then put a piece of tegaderm on each one and its been good since. @@jeweledcitrus definitely give your surgeon a call.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
