Take a drink, burp and the sharp yet brief pain in my stomach area - anyone experience this?

Recommended Posts

I think I drank Water too quickly today and may have caused some issue. Now when I take a sip, I'm almost always experiencing a small burp and then a brief sharp pain in my stomach (left side, slightly below my ribs). I am wondering if I've messed something up!?

Any thoughts?

I searched the site (as well as I could) and didn't find anything similar. I've skipped dinner tonight as I don't want to exacerbate anything. I will call my Dr tomorrow. I would like to have one week where I don't speak with the bariatric nurse!

*And I do realize many of my posts make me sound like some type of hypochondriac -- I'd like to think I'm just hyper-aware and (excessively?) vigilant about checking into every weird feeling I get with the sleeve. :-)

Not hypochondriac - proactively diligent.

Hope you find your answer and can take care of that nagging pain. Good luck! Feel better!

My bariatric nurse thinks that I may have irritated my sleeve. She suggested stepping back to softer foods for a couple of days. Today seemed better as I only had pain twice when I burped; however, now the pain occurs at times without burping. I'm not going to (try not...) stress - will wait a couple of days and if it's still happening I will insist on seeing someone.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
