I was happy with the West LA Facility. The pre-op, op and post-op nurses were great. The floors and rooms clean. I had a large room and they allowed my mom to stay in the room with me in a chair that turned into a bed. The doctor, Dr. Casillas, was very personable before and after the surgery with my family (even though it was late, after 8PM) when he came out to tell them how I faired.

I would recommend it as a good place to have the surgery. I think the other choice is Harbor City. I live near Pasadena and BOTH are far from me. I wish they had the surgery at Sunset!

I'm out of OC but the first step was to have my PCP refer me to the Options Program.

Once in the program you have to do blood work, give a stool sample, meet with a doctor (who recommends you lose 10% of ur current weight during the 3 mths) and a nut.

While working on these things you also have to attend 3 months of classes, where you are given a binder full of information for the bariatric surgeries offered etc and they have different speakers each week to go over the specifics. You also weigh in every week.

I wasn't too thrilled about the classes but I'm glad I had them because it was informative and the people in the class were a great support system.

I started my journey 8/2015 and had surgery 2/2016. It normally doesn't take that long but the holidays delayed things.

Anyway in class they said that once your in the Options Program your basically approved for bariatric surgery but you have to follow there guidelines.

Also after the classes you can opt out of surgery, if you chose to. I think the classes are valid for a year so you still have time to think about it if your undecided.

South Bay has 3 bariatric surgeons, I chose Dr. Zane because he is the head of that department.

Good luck to you

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
