Surgery in 36 hours

Recommended Posts

Hello! I'm Kayla. I'm 16. My surgery is coming up in 36 hours to be exact. I wasn't anywhere near nervous until now. I'm not super nervous but I am a tiny bit. I was just wondering what does it feel like going under? Like you took a nap or something? Also I will have a catheter in and I was wondering if anyone else has had one? What is it like? Is it uncomfortable? Also, how long until the pain isn't bad anymore? Idk. Just tell me about your experience plz ❤

16? Wow, you're the youngest I've ever heard from. Hope all goes well. Good luck and best wishes!

What it feels like to go under... Whatever they put in that IV will make you believe everything will be okay (and it will be) and take away your worries. Basically, I was high, and I remember singing Kokomo and all of the surgical staff joining in with me. As for the catheter, I will assume you are taking about the one that is for urination, I loved it, I didn't have to get up to pee and I didn't have the urge to go, it just happens.

Good luck to you!

For me, I was awake and alert when they wheeled me into the operating room and I had to shift onto the operating table. The next thing I knew I was waking up in recovery. The anticipation was the worst part. You won't be aware of the surgery at all.

I didn't have a catheter that I am aware of. Even with a hernia repair my surgery lasted less than an hour. I know that many people worry about a catheter. If you do use one it really isn't a big deal.

Best of luck with your surgery and keep us posted on your progress.

My surgery is on June 28th so I will be doing it right after you. I am excited and nervous too! Don't worry we will be just fine. I wish I had done this year's ago and I am impressed that you have decided to take control of your life at a young age. You rock!

You will be awake going into the surgery. Cather placed when you are asleep so shouldn't be too bad, and it doesn't hurt when it's in! Hope that helps! Good luck

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
