So I am 2 days post op!!! WOOT WOOT and my doctor was so right! I can not stand the taste of any "fruity" drinks. Isopure, mio, crystal light, Jello, sugar free popsicles it all makes me want to gag!!! I am on Water and chicken broth only. Which is really boring!! SO I have been looking into maybe doing won-ton Soup (drained of course) and egg drop soup (drained also!!!) Would these be okay? I went to call my doctor to ask but the office is closed till monday and I don't want to call the on call doctor over a silly question.

Any help or other suggestions are GREATLY appreciated!!!!

I don't think on the clear liquid state of the diet that would be recommended. I'm only 10 days post OP and on my second day of full liquid. Those Soups you describe would fit into what my doctor calls "full, liquid" which you aren't supposed to start until 10-14 days post op

At two days I was on Clear Liquids, so if there are no bits and pieces and you can see through it should be ok. My NUT suggested Pacific brands Bone Broth because it has more Protein than most clear Soups. I never tried it but you might want to consider it.

I am only on clear liquids for 4 days then I go to full liquids and I know that wonton Soup is a clear broth with large dumplings that I will remove maybe I will skip the egg drop since that is a little more full even with just the broth. I will also look into Bone Broth I haven't head of it but I am willing to try anything at this point!! Thank you

I drained the chicken and noodles out of chicken noodle Soup and the rice and veggies out of rice soup during the clear liquid phase. I would think both of those are probably fine as long as they aren't milk based (which is generally the big difference between clear liquid and full liquid) and you strain out all the chunks.

My sister and I got sleeved together on July 14. We tried the Pacific Bone Broth, and we both hated it. Although ALL of the liquid phases are pretty boring, our mom made us homemad chicken broth, and that was much better than anything we bought. Also, not sure if they have Salata restaurants where you live, but we also love their tortilla Soup. It was flavorful, and not creamy or heavy. They don't put tortillas in it, only a few veggies. We just ask them to give us more of the juice rather than the stuff in it. Or, you can drain it yourself. Either way, you're getting your clear liquid and it's not the traditional broth. Good luck!

If you like French Onion Soup try this;

  • (5) Vidalia Onions halved and sliced
  • (1) 20 oz. carton of Low Salt Beef broth
  • Worcestershire sauce to taste
  • a big pinch of Montreal Steak Seasoning
  • 2 Tbs. of Extra Virgin Olive Oil

In a medium size sauce pan sweat the onions and olive oil over medium low heat

as the onions release Water and become translucent sprinkle in Montreal Steak Seasoning and Worcestershire Sauce

cover and continue to cook over low heat for about 20 minutes stirring occasionally until the onions are fully translucent and are taking on a very light color from your seasonings then add the whole 20 oz. carton of beef broth continue to simmer on low heat for 30 to 45 minutes stirring occasionally when you think you have wrung as much flavor as you can from your onions strain and allow to cool a bit then measure out a cup or two and add a scoop of unflavored Protein powder slowly whisk in the Protein and don't heat it up too hot or it may cause the protein to clump a bit

Good Luck and Good Health

Jay

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
