10 DAYS OUT, THINGS GOING TOO GOOD?

Recommended Posts

I'm 10 days out, still in the full liquids stage, but I can drink a 32 ounce Powerade in about 20 minutes. I can knock down a 10 ounce Greek yogurt in 5 minutes, with no trouble at all. All this talk on these forums about people struggling to even drink a Protein Shake, and I could almost chug mine. I'm a little worried, that the surgeon made my pouch too big? Or should I just shut up and be happy about it? I'm not having problems with hunger and I am content on the 5 to 700 calories I'm eating a day. I'm averaging 80 to 90 grams of Protein a day.

Glad things are going so swimmingly at 10 days out!

Be glad it's going so well! Mine did as well and I had the same worries, but once I started on normal fully solid food, I felt the restrictions of my pouch real fast.

Thanks sarahbee. That's what I was kind of figuring. I just didn't want to be one of those people who feel little restriction. I just ate a 5 oz yogurt and a 3 oz sugar free pudding. I feel pretty stuffed now. I'm now finding out how important it is to eat slow even if I could eat it fast because it does take a little bit to feel full at least in my case.

Yep - and that'll be a bigger deal when you're on solid, regular food. I remember thinking the surgery didn't work for me during pureed and soft food stage. Now I've been on normal food a couple weeks. I get stuff on a little bit of scrambled egg and half a meatless sausage patty and have a few incidents of stuck food/vomiting. I am VERY aware of my surgery now :P And yes - eating fast is no biggie when it's all soft stuff, but can lead to a whole heck of a lot of discomfort later, so train yourself now!

You definitely need to get in the habit of eating slower. Just because you can do all that stuff fast doesn't mean you should. Even with yogurt I set a timer on my phone for 1 minute and make myself wait 1 minute in between every bite. This is one of the hardest habits for me. When I am eating with others around and can't use that timer, I feel a little lost. I know it will become habit eventually but a struggle right now. And when I have solid foods and eat too fast, it is very uncomfortable and almost always comes back up.

I felt the same way, but it did change once I got to solids. My biggest struggle is waiting between bites/not eating too fast. If you can get in that habit now, it will make the transition to solids easier.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
